Adding Custom Domains & Alternatives
Adding custom domains allows you to turn your tracking links into urls that use your own domain, as well as for instant publishing of landing pages and optins to your domain. Another way to do this without needing to add a custom domain is using the wordpress plugin we provide from the 'publish' options inside Landing page and Optins. This short video and guide will show you how to add a custom domain into Platform.ly:
00:00 In this video, we're going to have a look at how you can point your custom domain names to Platformly. The first thing you're going to do is you're going to go to this drop down menu, and you're going to go to the setup link. From setup, you'll see domains. After you're on the domains tab, you'll click 'add new domain' and from here, you'll see that you can enter the domain name, and then the two different sub-domains that you're going to use. If you entered www, then you'll use the main level domain. For example, we're going to go put in the domain name as ... 'joinus.ws', and the tracking I want to put as something like, let's say 'you' joinus.ws. The landing page, I want it to be probably from the top level, so I'm just going to put www. Okay, without the dot, like this.
00:57 Then, you'll see what comes is, it gives you the CNAMEs that you should add. So we're quickly going to input the CNAMEs right now. And the way we're going to do that is in this example, we're using Cloudflare. So if you have the domain name registered at GoDaddy or some other provider, you can either set this up with the advanced DNS inside GoDaddy, or you can simply point the name servers to Cloudflare. You go to cloudflare.com, you register a free account, and then once you're inside you click 'Add domain' and then you add your domain. And when you get to this step, DNS Records, or after you've added it, at any point in time you can come up, you click 'DNS', which is going to add custom CNAMEs.
01:40 So you see where this section is here, we're just going to copy and paste. So we go back here. The first one we're going to set up is 'you' and it's a CNAME record and we're going to point it to this address. If you want to see how to do it, there's also an image here, by clicking that it'll open this image and it'll show you how to fill this in. Alright?
02:03 So let's quickly do it. So the first thing we're going to do, we're going to make the CNAME, the name is 'you'. So 'you', this and CNAME, add record. We see it's now added in there.
02:20 Now let's add the second one. So this is ... We want to have landing page LP, and we're going to add the www. And that's it. So now we've added these records. As you can see they're going behind the CDN so we've now got our Cloudflare protecting our domains as well. As I said, you don't have to use Cloudflare. Anywhere that you can edit your DNS records you can add custom CNAMEs. So let's say that you're hosting with some provider like Bluehost or something like that, inside your control panel, inside C panel, you'll be able to add CNAMEs as well and you just add these two CNAMEs like this. Pointing at these. So whichever sub-domains you choose, however you want to set up and whichever domains you choose.
03:11 So now we've added those, and that's done, we're just going to wait a little bit of time for that to update and then I'm gonna come back and show you the rest of it, okay. But what we can do here is once you've done it, we just click 'Add domain' and you see it says "Can take between one and twenty four hours" but it's already checked it, and look, it says 'connected', it's all good. So if we go like this, it should say that this is a landing page. "This is an official Landing Page Url of Platform.ly" and if we go here, it should tell us it's a tracking sub-domain. So there we go.
03:48 So it's all set up. That means that you've successfully added your own custom domain when you see these. And what it means is, when you go and you start creating tracking links, you'll be able to choose 'you.joinus.ws' or whatever your domain is from the list, and create custom branded tracking domains, and for landing pages you'll be able to do the same here.
04:08 So it's as simple as that to add in your custom domain.
04:11 Thank you.
